Everybody loves to have a new puppy; training and educating it is another
matter however. In this regard, training collars for dogs are considered very
practical tools, although dog owners are advised to study their options in order
to make a good decision that will satisfy their dogs' needs. Training collars
are manufactured by several companies, and each company in turn offers several
models that differ in quality, price, and features.
It is best not to get bogged down by that at first; once you have selected the
variety of training collar that best suits your situation you can browse the
rest of the options
Types of training collars for dogs
One of the most important parts of training is the selection of the right
training collar. Designers, of course, create every single training collar with
the intention of modifying a dog's behavior, but they greatly differ in how they
go about it. One of the most common options is the electronic collar. This
device delivers a harmless but uncomfortable zap whenever the dog performs an
undesirable action.
Choke collars are another option. As the name suggests, when the dog struggles
against the owners lead the collar constricts. However, proper training must be
undertaken by the owner of the dogs in order to avoid hurting the dog in the
process. Finally, there are citronella spray collars, which spray the dog's
mouth and nose with a citronella scent which is disgusting to dogs whenever they
disobey an order or incurs in bad behavior.
Regardless of the training collar used, it's extremely important to let the dog
know which are the exact results expected from the training in a way that it's
very clear. Without clear instructions on what the animal has to do in order to
avoid punishment, training will only result in fear or agressiveness. Finally,
while training might be uncomfortable for the dog or the owner at the beginning,
in the long run the need of the training collar and the corrections will
decrease, as the dog learns the required behavior and commits less and less
faults.
Today, training collars for dogs are one of the most useful tools for dog owners. There are different classes of collars, but the most common are electronic, choking, and spray based. However, training collars for dogs should always be used in training and only under supervision and with clear instructions.
