Beagles are members of the hound family of dogs. They make wonderful family pets as they are naturally good natured. As they were originally bred to be hunting dogs, they are also excellent when it comes to tracking hares and game birds. It is a very popular breed and is consistently in the top 5 of all breeds listed with the American Kennel Club with over 40,000 Beagles individually registered. If you want to buy a Beagle puppy, there are many different sources where you can find Beagles for sale. But it is advisable to obtain your new dog through a recognized Beagle breeder, especially if this will be your first one. There are many different types of dog breeders and you may need help as to which would be the best Beagle breeder to look for. The three main types that you are likely to come across in your search for a Beagle breeder are licensed breeders, hobby breeders and pet breeders.

Licensed breeders are breeders who have puppies available for sale from five or more litters that they have bred in a year. This is to ensure that strict standards are met with regards to the animals? welfare. This includes not breeding using a bitch that is under a year old, using the same bitch for more than 6 litters and allowing at least a year between litters. There are heavy penalties for being an unlicensed breeder if they are caught. To become a licensed Beagle breeder, they must meet certain requirements. Their premises and practices are checked by local authorities and veterinary professionals and detailed records of all dogs must be kept. You should always confirm with the breeder that they are licensed so you know that they fulfill the requirements. You should also be aware that licensed breeders may not deal solely in Beagles and may have brought in animals from other licensed breeders. Of course, you can check all relevant records before you decide to buy.

Hobby breeders are, as the name suggests, people who breed only occasional litters and not necessarily for sale. You may find that a Beagle breeder who has recently had a litter that is offering one or two of the puppies for sale. Their Beagle breeding is often for producing show dogs or working dogs but may have a larger litter than expected. A hobby breeder is likely to be as meticulous in choosing a new owner for their puppy as you are in choosing your ideal Beagle breeder to buy your puppy from! Finally, pet breeders have had a litter from their own Beagle housedog. They often only want to keep a small number of a litter and are likely to have a number of their puppies for sale.

Each group of Beagle breeders is different but they do have one thing in common and that is that they may all have the perfect Beagle for you. You may prefer to buy your Beagle puppy from a particular type of Beagle breeder or be fairly open. It is important to know how to find a quality Beagle breeder in order to help narrow down your search.
